BEAUTIFULLY Directed by Zoe McIntosh, THE WORLD IN YOUR WINDOW is an Award Winning Short Film that tells the story of Jesse, an eight year old who lives in a twilight world of sadness and silence. His life is squeezed into a tiny caravan with his grief stricken father.
The two are in limbo – existing – not living. They are stuck – until an accidental friendship with a V8 driving Transsexual – unlocks the means for Jesse to liberate his father and himself.
This caravan park is filled with the lost, the lonely, the poor and the broken. Attention to detail in set design is stupendous. The extras are unique characters themselves. A hard life is etched on their bodies and faces.
McIntosh tells a compelling story with the use of only three lines. Her language is visual – and it’s captivating. Stunning Cinematography (Martyn Williams) brings the story into the audience’s world. The choice of filming the characters through windows – makes you understand how physically and emotionally trapped they are.
Beautiful score (Ewan Clark and Rhian Sheehan) is the soul of the film.
David Lolofakangalo Rounds plays a young Jesse with enormous heart and depth. Joe Folau plays the Dad consumed with grief – and you feel his pain. Lena Regan plays Repa, a transsexual that is silently rich with emotion. Regan gives a mesmerizing performance.
This film shows a raw look at how debilitating grief can be – especially if your environment is already broken. What does it take to reconnect with life? This film reminds us it can come from unexpected places and that looking forward – can be harder than looking back.
