HEAD SPACE is a short drama about a single mother concerned with her son’s inability to cope. She sees the tables turn when faced with danger.
Written and Directed by Emma Huibregtse, the film has a wonderful vintage feel which includes the music in the opening scene. A young boy (beautifully portrayed by Brayden Ferrell) is asleep on the floor. His mom (Kelly Vint Castro) is cooking eggs for the boy’s breakfast. The film then takes an interesting turn.
The mom slides the tray of food underneath the kitchen table. The boy remains silent while eating. She tells him that she’ll be going out later that night. The boy never speaks. Obviously, this is a usual occurrence between mother and son.
Lovely cinematography by Alex Ramsey. The angles in the way the film is shot, gives you a sense of the boy’s world from his “safe” place.
In under five minutes, this film takes you on a journey that explores a young boy’s weaknesses – and strengths.
